My starter is around 2 years old and it has survived some neglect on my part by it stil produces lovely chewy bread with that great tang. It changes its flavour depending on the time of year and how active I've kept it going. I was fortunate to inherit a round oak pedestal table from a beloved great aunt. I only have four chairs but with the leaves in it the table can accommodate 8. But my most prized piece of furniture I got from my grandmother. It was her mother's old Singer treadle sewing machine. My great grandfather bought it for her in 1901 and it was brand new. I learned to sew on it when I was 11. My husband and I have been married for 37 years and the only new furniture we ever bought was our new bed 5 years ago and my husbands recliner. The only reason I bought the recliner was he had broken his leg, was in the hospital for 3 months and when he came home he couldn't navigate stairs for another 2 months and I only had two days to get the house safe for his homecoming. And I was working 10 hrs a day 7 days a week for this whole time. ;-). He has always been a trial but I love him. At least he waited until our fourth grandchild had arrived. From the back your little one looks like him. I made my first (and only) starter back on the 20th of September and it's still going strong - fingers crossed... A collection started with my grandfather's bentwood armchair. They are all a bit rickety, but have loads of character. Good on you with your bread baking. With only two of us it isn't all that viable, but I did have a go one day, which was great fun.
