Scorcher.........

You can tell it's going to be a scorcher of a day when at 8:45am the temps have already reached 39'C... So after starting my day extra early this morning my outside jobs of mowing the lawn, tending to the chooks and bringing in the washing are thankfully done. I can now retire to the coolness of the house before the temps increase any more. Yesterday was a horrific 49.6'C here at the homestead and today is predicted to be the same, crazy I know!!!!!
Yesterday saw me harvesting yet another batch of green squash and baby zucchini (there's also some heirloom and apple cucumber in the pic, to the right). This lot was turned into zucchini and squash relish last night...
This relish is delicious and tastes a lot like mustard pickles..... It has a sweet tangy flavour that is divine with corned meat (silver-side)...
I also managed to make another one of Dana's little skirts last night for Miss Connie using an old white cotton sheet and some leftover festive fabric...
I love this little tutorial of Dana's it makes up so quick, I think the gathered pocket is my most favourite part, it's just perfect for my 3yr old to put all of her little treasures in throughout the day...
I hope you are keeping cool where you are today.....
Take Care..... Jodie..... :)

  4. Oh boy are we ever keeping cool here today! It was way below freezing this morning when we went to church. Love your veg pics, and that little skirt is so darling. Every little girl needs a fancy pocket to keep stuff in!

  5. 49.6, oh my god I think I would melt. We are going to have 43 today too so I am hoping it doesnt get too awful and no fires start anywhere. Your vegie haul looks great, sadly mine needs a total replant and weeding but not today - I will be inside with the air-conditioning knitting some socks! Stay safe and cool Jodie!

  6. That's way too hot. I think we're only going to get to 40ish here today. Just means I'm not planning on going outside!! Glad that you got your outside jobs all done early!

Your relish looks yummy!! I should have cooked our vegies up before I put them in the fridge and forgot about them!!!

  13. YE GADS!
    Bless airconditioning.
How did the pioneer women cope without it. I would have made a very crap pioneer woman I think.
Wishing you a cool change soon.

  14. You are doing well, the morning routine must be a nice feeling. That and having preserves made. How special is that under the circumstances. My Mum used her cucumbers with apples for a pickle, if you can get hold of some cheap apples, it is sometimes tricky.

Cold meat is lovely. My husband cut a baked ham the other day, and sliced cucumber and the smell was very comforting. Like being in Mum's kitchen.

  15. Hope you can keep out of the worst of the heat---time for tea, flavored ice cubes, and cooling dishes. I'm sure that garden is soaking up the rays of light! As always the skirt is adorable :)

  16. And I was complaining about 40 degrees! You must have good air con to handle that heat.
Your latest batch of pickles looks scrummy and the skirt is super cute.

  17. Sending you a 'virtual' southerly breeze to cool things down a bit. At least the heat is a good reason to stay indoors and craft-away.

    Cheers, Cassandra.

  20. Geesh, that is hot out there, phew!! Canberra is sizzling, so easy to spend the entire school holidays in the pool RATHER than sew. My studio is steamy, just bought ANOTHER fan for it.
Keep cool, great vegetable haul, love Posie
