Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if my little family lived near a town, where when holidays were over kids toddled off to the local school while the Mum (and Dad's too in some homes) got the chance to organise the home again after a hectic holiday. But then I remember that my family lives on a Sheep Station, 70km's from any school with no access to buses, so school for us is done here on the farm and that sometimes means that actual 'holidays' so to speak are few and far between...
So this weekend I didn't feel as guilty as I normally would when most of my time was spent doing very little as I readied myself for another Term of Home-schooling here on the farm... I mended busted knees in my eldest girls favourite pants...
Watched as DH taught the girls a thing or 2 about fencing...
Finished off a batch of Tomato Relish, with label writing help from my girls of-coarse...
Made bread - lots of bread.
Picked oranges from our tree,
and made the sweetest orange juice I've tasted in a long, long time...
But most importantly I chilled out, a lot!!! And it felt really, really good... What did you do this weekend?
Gosh Jodie...I am drafting a similar blog right at the moment. We were crutching in the 'holidays' which meant I was feeding men and busy looking after everyone else. Home schooling has its advantages (I think?) but it is certainly full on and leaves little spare time for the teaching mum.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos, everything looks wholesome and delicious at your place. Especially the bread x
Now that's what school should be all about...I love the idea of learning to live. I've been back at school one day and have come home with a headache and piles of homework to do. Urghhh, another 10 weeks of it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to spend your weekend Jodie. I hope you feel slightly recharged and ready to head in to the fray. Holidays are tricky when you live, breath and eat what you do for a living but I guess that time you do get is all the sweeter.
ReplyDeleteI am sure living way out, away from others can be a bit of a challenge, but I can see that you seem to have so many good qualities as a wife, mother, home maker and teacher. Face it, you are so much more that just these titles. There are pros and cons with country life. It is clean living, and by that I mean there is less corruption where children are concerned. We raised our daughters in the country. I was a city girl, my husband was from the hills of Kentucky. I learned to can and freeze produce from our garden and many other things basically because running into town meant burning up fuel in the car/truck. Every trip had to count for something. I did not have to home school our children, the school system provided busing for country kids, but there were kids in town whose parents chose to home school them. We do not live as isolated as you do, but the very nature of your family's sheep ranch would mean that you have little choice. I am sure God smiles down on you and your little family Jodi. I am sure He is well pleased with what he sees. It is all good, and by the end of your day you can rest and know that all the hard work paid off my friend.
ReplyDelete(((HUGS))) Susanne ♥
Doesn't sound like you took it easy...mending, baking bread, making relish! LOL! But if you're like me you enjoy those tasks and it gives such a feeling of accomplishment which some household tasks do not.
ReplyDeleteSo special to have your own orange trees!
I did some puttering around yesterday too...I needed to do some cleaning but I also took the time to do so me decorating which is always fun for me. Take Care! Your oldest is getting so big and what cute patches those are.
a busy holiday for you.
ReplyDeletethe fencing pics are lovely- nice contrast between the red soil and the pretty floral knee patches.

Be thankful that your children are having a life experience that most would envy. There is much to be said about wide open spaces and learning to be resourceful and self-reliant. I have never regretted the time I spent growing up on a farm. The best!
ReplyDeleteWow so inspiring! How the wheels don't fall off the wagon more often is amazing!! I'm back at work today (behind the computer again) and wondering if a different lifestyle would suit me better...and I read your blog and crave to bake, bottle and craft!
ReplyDeleteIt is very nice article. We need to know it .
ReplyDeleteBut I want to help air conditioning services.
Since I can Get more information.
a charming way to invest your few days Jodie. I wish you experience a little bit energized and prepared to go in to the arena. Vacations are challenging when you stay, breathing and eat what you do for a residing but I think that period you do get is all the more gratifying.
